Client Birth Stories

My husband and I are both engineers who respect the benefits of modern medicine. We wanted (and got!) compassionate, holistic care with these amazing women. But we were also looking for an evidence based practice. These midwives respected me while also bringing expertise and experience. Because I could trust them and their training, I could more deeply trust my body. Birth is a 40+ week process, not just the labor part, and these ladies had my back every step of the way
— Cassandra, Mama of 3 home born babies
Pam, Brie and Meghan were absolutely wonderful. I always felt respected, comfortable and, most importantly, safe with them. They answered all my questions and I felt that they genuinely cared for me and my baby. During labor, they gave me my space, but were there if I needed them. My baby ended up being in a bad birthing position and was causing some issues. Pam and Brie were calm and talked me through the whole situation. When I had to transfer to the hospital, I felt that we had made a decision together that this was what was best for me and baby. Brie came with me to the hospital and stayed until my baby was born. The weeks after my birth were very emotionally hard and they were there to support and comfort me and my husband. I can never thank them enough for all they did for us!

After having two prior births with other providers in hospital settings including a Cesarean and a VBAC, my husband and I were looking for a different experience with my third birth and turned to Women’s Wisdom Midwifery. During my entire prenatal care experience I felt listened to, supported, and both my physical and mental health were addressed by all 3 midwives. My weight was never an issue; instead we discussed nutrition options, with the midwives advising foods and food groups to ensure I felt good and things I could eat to keep my nausea and heartburn under control. They fully supported my frequent exercise schedule and gave me tips to make sure I felt good while exercising and afterwards. During birth, I had 2 of the midwives and their assistant there as soon as I felt that I needed them. Their presence made me feel cared for, while also allowing me to move around as I needed to in order to get comfortable. A frustrating time occurred during my birth, but I was listened to, and was a part of a discussion about whether a cervical check could help decide the next steps, in a way that I had never experienced with previous care providers. The midwives had many ideas for turning my posterior baby during labor, resulting in just 15 minutes of pushing out a very large baby. With their calm reminders to breathe and stretch during pushing, I experienced only minor tearing, much less than in my previous VBAC. The incredibly supportive postpartum care (in my home the first few days and via text whenever I had a question) was what every birthing person should receive. My home birth was a great experience and it was a huge help in healing my previous traumatic birth.

Women’s wisdom will always have a special place in my heart. Being a mom of birth trauma, I really needed to feel like my care provider for my second pregnancy really listened to my wants and needs. I NEEDED to feel in control. These three women did just that. They put me back in control of my pregnancy and birth; They challenged me to listen to my body, to hear what it was saying, to understand what it was telling me, and more importantly to feed my body, mind and soul. The sense of empowerment I received through 8 months of visits with them, labor and delivery, and the most AMAZING post-partum care (that was an extra in my mind, I had no expectations of such great after care) not only helped me achieve an at-home VBAC, but also makes me feel like a stronger mom, and even more a stronger person. Not only did they deliver my baby, they helped my find a voice. And I can never thank them enough for being amazing providers, and now, quite wonderful friends.

Being in your care, I was so excited about my pregnancy, and the entire process of welcoming my daughter, when everyone else was trying to scare me about the experience. You all helped me to believe without a shadow of a doubt what my body and my baby was capable of, and made me think about care from the inside out, which not only made for a healthy and happy baby, but also set us all up for a healthy and happy lifestyle. We are so grateful for every way you’ve all changed our lives, and still can’t quite believe we got to welcome her at home with the safest and most loving arms.

I can’t begin to put into words the amount of love and gratitude I have for the Doula’s and Midwives at Women’s Wisdom. Pregnancy was never an easy period for me, but the support and care I received during my pregnancy is unparalleled to anything I had ever experienced in a hospital setting. I had a history of precipitous (very fast) labors and my first home birth labor was a quick 2 hours start to finish. I never, for a second, worried about the ability of my midwives to be there for me on such a short notice. Pam, Meghan and Brie created a calm and supportive environment in my home and I was able to deliver an 11 pound baby, surrounded by my family and my midwives, with very minimal tearing and tons of encouragement, something that I honestly believe would never have happened in a hospital. They not only became my birthing team, but they became my friends and I consider them as such to this day, 3 years after my baby was born. I had a vision for what my dream birth would look like and Womens Wisdom made that dream come true for me. I will forever be grateful to them for their support

I first sought out home birth midwifery care after the birth of my oldest daughter. Labor with her was extremely long, exhausting mentally and physically. I didn’t feel empowered or in control during her birth. When we became pregnant again, I knew I wanted things to be different. I wanted to feel differently about my birth. When I met Pam, I immediately knew I needed to have the three of them at my birth. Pam is a wealth of knowledge which will put any fears to ease. As a chiropractor, I have a deep belief in the innate intelligence of our bodies, I knew I was made to give birth. I knew pregnancy wasn’t a “disease” that needed to be managed. I knew I needed to find the right group of women to lift me up during this vulnerable time.
I had a very difficult time postpartum with nursing my daughter. All three midwives went completely out of their way to help me. They met me at their office on their off days, spent endless hours finding me additional resources, referring me to different providers when needed. They checked on me almost daily. Meghan even met me at my daughters tongue and lip revision appointment. They truly are a gift of love to this community. They care so deeply about their clients. My experience with them was so humbling, empowering, and full of love and connection. Because of their support I am still nursing my daughter at 6 months after many providers telling me to just give up, that she was too orally compromised, and that they needed to stop my lactation for me to heal. They supported me unconditionally, and for that I am forever grateful.

I have been lucky enough to have Pam and megan as my midwives for my first and then Brie, Pam, and Megan for my second.
My oldest came after two miscarriages, so it was a hard pregnancy for me so I saw my traditional OB as parallel care for the first 28 weeks. The difference between the care is staggering. Pam and Megan, gave me amazing care asked great questions that lead me to find a physical therapist, which In turn changed my labor and pregnancy! My labor was about 25(ish) hours, I was 41.3 weeks pregnant Early labor was hard, I had very short close contractions. Pam thought it was my body trying to get baby into the position, she also got my PT to come to my home and 5 minutes after she left I went into active labor! They let me labor how I wanted, only suggesting things here and there, like when I said “I feel like I need to push but I’m not sure I should” Pam sweetly said “If your body is telling you to push, you should push.” My daughter came with 2.5 hours of pushing, it was so wonderful the care and ease of the afterbirth was with them! We had issues nursing, and Pam came on her time to help. I had some pp anxiety/depression tied to having issues nursing and My husband reached out to Pam, unsure of what to do, she reached out to me, and made me feel so much better. I will always be grateful for that.

My second baby, was pretty standard, I saw my PT again. The biggest difference was it was structured differently with 3 midwives instead of two! I wasn’t sure how that was going to go, but Brie has an ease and comfort about her that makes it wonderful. Brie fit in with Pam and Megan and it felt like they they had always been working together! The prenatal care, as with the first, was phenomenal, what I love about them is you make the decisions, but they give you an abundance of information, to be able to decide. This labor was drastically different, which they assumed. They assumed it was going to be really fast, and boy were they right. I woke up in the early morning, I was 38.5 weeks and had some stray contractions, I let Pam know, just to give her a heads up! So we had breakfast out to eat and went grocery shopping. I had contractions on and off all day, but nothing was consistent. I lost some of my bloody show and so I texted her again! She said Brie was able to come check me if I wanted, which I did! So Brie came and told me....I was about a 6, asked me if I wanted to get my membranes swiped, I said yes!
She left, and told me to keep them notified, that she thought maybe the baby would come in the next 12 hours. 3 minutes after she left, I had a huge contraction that brought me to my knees, I had to run to the bathroom, puked and then my water broke! So we Contacted the midwives and Brie turned right on around, Pam headed over a little after that, 2 hours and a couple of pushes brought our second born into this world.
Both pregnancies and births were drastically different but the one constant was the amazing care, I got from all of the midwives. They are insanely knowledgeable, and truly allow you to birth (to the best of your and their ability) the way you want. I will always be grateful beyond measure for the care, and hey will always be apart of my history, and I couldn’t be prouder!

Pam, Brie & Meghan were 3 of the best supportive midwives during my pregnancy with our 5th baby. My quality of care was not only professional, but each are passionate midwives. I felt knowledgeable and empowered during my pregnancy and prepared for my home delivery. Unfortunately my baby needed an emergency cesarean, but that didn’t stop them from being there and still offering support. I didn’t feel abandoned or left alone with the medical team, despite my birth plans needing to change for emergency reasons. Whenever a friend mentions her birth plans, and mentions a home birth, I recommend these ladies. Thank you for being the bridging point, of making birth less fearful and a normal process to motherhood.
